QMP Setup

Quicken/Money Plug allows you to print personal, business (BE only) or non-standard checks from Quicken,
MS Money or QuickBooks using Check Printer software.

  1. Install "Generic / Text Only" printer on port C:\FILEPORT.PRN
Vista, W7 or W8 doesn't allow installation into this location - you have to use an alternate one, i.e. D:\TEMP\PRINT.OUT. See below.

  2. Set Quicken, Money or QuickBooks to print checks to this printer.
In Print Setup/Checks set Paper to Page-oriented, Partial page printing style to Portrait for Quicken. Set paper source to Cut sheet
    Do not
    adjust font/align/logo and settings.

  3. Set Check Printer to run with QMP.
Start Check Printer go to Settings/Advanced/QMP and select Use Quicken/Money Plug. Make sure that both indicators are green. Select Start minimized in tray if you want to use Check Printer with QMP only. It will save you the effort to minimize Check Printer every time you run it.
If you have used an alternate port (i.e. D:\TEMP\PRINT.OUT) click Advanced button and enter this instead of the default C:\FILEPORT.PRN.

QMP Usage

  1. Start Check Printer before printing checks from Quicken, MS Money or QuickBooks,

  2. Start Quicken/Money and do your bills. Don't do more than 99 checks at a time,

  3. Select Print checks from the menu as you normally would,

  4. Set check format in Quicken to Standard Checks, or in MS Money to Laser Standard,

  5. Use 3 checks per page (any other setting will not work so make sure this is what you set before clicking the Print/OK button). Do not do Print test from here,

  6. Select All checks,

  7. Check Printer's QMP will detect and print the checks allowing you to reprint if improperly printed.
Do not use Reprint command from Quicken/Money,

  8. If there are any errors please check this file again -- most errors are caused by wrong check format being sent from Quicken/Money or the program not having write permission to the drive it is started from.  Contact the author if there is a programming issue.

  • Notes:
The QMP is limited to 99 checks at a time, to print more than 99:
From Quicken/Money print the first 99-check batch and follow the QMP until you're done.
Once the QMP dialog is closed you can print another set again.

While the QMP is now more intelligent it may still confuse last line of payee address with a missing memo - if this problem occurs please make sure you always use memos for your checks printed from Quicken, Money or QB. This can be a part of payee account, etc.
Payee names for payee addresses are now ignored and exact payee name cannot be used as a memo, for example:
    If your payee is: AMERITECH
your memo cannot be Ameritech for the same check but it can be: Ameritech Bill

Keep in mind that the port is swept on Check Printer startup and each time the QMP dialog is closed.
Checks printed thru QMP will be stored in Check Register. There will be a <qmp> mark at the end of the payee name for such record.
If the QMP checks are sent with dual date the printing will fail. If you receive a QMP print error dont close the error box, but go to your FILEPORT.PRN location (root C: is default) and open this file with Notepad.  Look for dual dates per check.  If you close the error box FILEPORT.PRN will be erased.
